WHY SHAMROCK WISDOM?

My West Highland White Terriers (Westies) are everything to me. They are sweet, intuitive, loving, happy, tenacious, and healing. We can learn much from them.

Mollie and Gwennie were our 1st Westies. They came from pet stores and had lots of health challenges. Together we learned much about allopathic and alternative medicine. My Mollie stretched experts and changed lives – as she healed others both 2 and 4 legged. At 16, she became one of my special angels and, sadly, Gwennie followed quickly thereafter. The hole in my heart was enormous. This journey is chronicled in My Special Girls — Award-Winning Poems of Joy and Grief.

Emma joined us as a puppy almost a year later. It was hard at first. There were days that I could not even look at her. I knew if this was going to work, we needed to do something completely different from Mollie and Gwennie. Emma came from a long line of AKC Champions. So, we started showing at dog shows. Emma had fun and was a natural. We had found our path forward together.

After much research, pedigrees, health issues, and more, I decided to breed Emma. She and Hank were love at 1st sight. They had 4 beautiful little girls. Now, I needed an AKC name. Emma’s name “AKC CH Cobblestone Emerald Isle” made me think of shamrocks. So, I chose the AKC name “Shamrock Westies” with a four-leaf clover representing the 4 girls with Emma’s face in the center.

This began a beautiful journey of love, courage, joy, and discovery with many champions and therapy dogs and much fun, love, and joy.

Our animals have much to teach us about life. Listen closely with love and they will eagerly share. So much of my inspiration in life comes from these powerful, loving, forgiving, nonjudgmental, and determined beings…. Therefore, it is fitting to have Shamrock Wisdom as the name for my writings –

            Shamrock = for luck and honoring my Westies’ wisdom

            Wisdom = for knowledge and honoring life’s lessons
